November 24, 2016, WKFFC Coaches and family enjoyed a very special Thanksgiving holiday dinner with 70's Kung Fu action star Angela Mao Ying! Both Angela and Coach Allen's mother Sally starred in movies with Bruce Lee and had a wonderful time reminiscing about the "old days and long time friends". Angela began her training as a young girl in the Peking Opera together with Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung. She is a master of Wushu, Hapkido, and Taekwondo. Angela's martial arts prowess and strong personality inspired a generation of martial artists and made her a role model. After dinner, Angela did a Wushu pose with our Coaches and showed her still very impressive Kung Fu skills!
Check out Angela's incredible fight scene from the classic Kung Fu movie - The Tournament

WKFFC Coach Allen with Mom (Sally) and Dad (Stephen) had a great time today at dinner with 70's Kung Fu movie legend Angela Mao Ying! Known as "Lady Kung Fu" and "Lady Whirlwind", Angela is highly regarded in cinema as the female Bruce Lee. As a trailblazer for female action stars, she starred in more than 30 films including classics such as Lady Kung Fu and Sting of the Dragon. Angela and Sally reminisced about their movie industry days and close friends.

September 21, 2016 - Coach Allen Tjiong was honored today to meet with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach at the inauguration ceremony announcing the creation of a new fitness and recreation center at the United Nations Headquarters generously sponsored by the IOC. Coach Allen, a United Nations official, has devoted great effort supporting Wushu to become an official Olympic sport and expressed to President Bach that Wushu's acceptance would generate even more excitement in the Games while promoting peace, friendship, and health through martial arts.
In 2011, Coach Allen organized and hosted the New York City visit by the China World Champion Wushu Team, officials of the Chinese Wushu Association and International Wushu Federation, and international action star Jet Li. The delegation's visit to New York City was to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s membership in the United Nations and included a Wushu performance in the UN General Assembly, an award ceremony with New York City officials emphasizing martial arts for health and fitness, and a visit to the New York Stock Exchange highlighted by Jet Li’s Closing Bell ceremony which focused worldwide media attention on Wushu’s efforts to become an Olympic sport.

A massive flash mob performance highlighting Chinese and U.S. cultural exchange was performed Mon, Sep 5, 2016 on the Ellipse lawn in front of the White House to celebrate the 2016 China-U.S. Tourism Year.
Hundreds of participants joined the event which was part of the China-U.S. Tourism Year programs. There were also performances of Chinese martial arts by the WKFFC, traditional Shaoxing opera, Chinese folk dances, Western ballroom dances, and other opera shows. Making 2016 as the China-U.S. Tourism Year was one of the decisions by Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Barack Obama during Xi’s visit to Washington last September 2015. A series of cultural exchange events have been held during the year. Officials from both countries spoke highly of these events.

International Film Star, Jet Li, accompanied by members of the China World Champion Wushu Team

International Film Star, Jet Li, accompanied by members of the China World Champion Wushu Team, Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) and International Wushu Federation (IWUF), visited the NYSE for a Closing Bell ceremony organized by Allen Tjiong of the Wushu-Kung Fu Fitness Center. The World Wushu Champions were in New York for a performance at the United Nations to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China’s membership. In honor of the occasion, Jet Li, joined by Mr. He Qinglong, Vice President of the Chinese Wushu Association and Ms. Zhang Yuping, Chief of the International Wushu Federation Secretariat and CWA Foreign Affairs Department, along with several Wushu Champions, rang the closing bell.

The Chinese Wushu Association was established in 1958. It is under the Chinese State Commission for Physical Culture and Sports and is the organization which regulates martial arts training throughout China. In addition to being a national sport in China, Wushu is part of the national program for health and fitness and is taught in high school and university.

The International Wushu Federation (IWUF) was established in 1990 and holds the World Wushu Championships every two years. It is also responsible for efforts to qualify Wushu as an Olympic sport. The IWUF's application for Chinese Martial Arts to be recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was prepared in Hong Kong in November 1998. The IWUF was accepted into membership of the General Assembly for International Sports Federations (GAISF) in 1995, which is the first step. The second step to reach the criteria set by the IOC is to have Wushu represented in a minimum of 73 countries, spanning 4 continents. Currently, the IWUF has more than 100 countries in membership, spanning all continents (Asia, North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Oceanic States). Many practitioners and fans of Wushu have high expectations that Wushu will one day soon be accepted as an official Olympic sport. - Allen Tjiong

With a theme “Peace, Friendship and Health”, featuring the China World Champion Wushu Team and 80 performers from various countries sponsored by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in cooperation with the Chinese Wushu Association (CWA) and International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
